PROJECT OVERVIEW

Roomer is an AR furnishing app that lets users visualize furniture in their homes using their smartphones. It also enables users to create floor plans and preview three-dimensional interiors with real furniture and decor items using an interactive 3D experience.

Background

Roomer was one of the projects I worked on at Magic Playbox Studio, an international AR and VR product development studio. During this project, I collaborated with a project manager, lead designer, and developers to uncover insights and translate concepts into features that addressed customer behaviors and motivations.

1. Problem statement

Many potential customers face uncertainty when buying new furniture or home decor items, as they struggle to envision how these items will fit within their existing interior design or layout. This lack of visualization often results in a high rate of returns and leaves customers dissatisfied with their purchase decisions.

People who have difficulty envisioning how new furniture will look in their existing interior need a way to easily visualize furniture in their homes and create floor plans.

The mobile app with an augmented reality (AR) feature that allows users to visualize furniture in their homes and create precise floor plans will simplify the process of planning home layouts and enable users to make informed purchasing decisions.

5. Low-Fidelity wireframes

The initial version of lo-fi wireframes helped me identify the priority revisions that needed to be implemented quickly. This reduced the number of iterations in the later versions, allowing us to focus on creating the hi-fi interface. The version below includes the ideation of the "Trying the Furniture in AR-mode" flow.

6. Design System

I created the design system for Roomer to ensure a consistent and cohesive user experience, streamline the design process, and reflect the app's vision and brand identity.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

Throughout the entire "Roomer" app's project, we made sure to strike the perfect balance between simplicity
and functionality, understanding how much it impacts the user experience.
Our main goal was to create an app that users could easily navigate to plan and visualize their living spaces effortlessly.

The integration of the AR feature provided our users with an immersive and interactive experience of furniture visualization, making it more engaging and realistic.

In the first few months after the app's launch, we were pleasantly surprised to see a considerable number of daily downloads
on the app store. Users found the app helpful, and their positive response made us happy.

Moving forward, our next steps would be to gather valuable feedback from our users, use their insights to make improvements,
and consider adding exciting new features.

In conclusion, the "Roomer" app's UX/UI project taught me the importance of putting users first, tackling the challenges
of simplifying complex tasks, and the power of incorporating immersive features like AR.
